Oscar and BAFTA-nominated re-recording mixer Dean Zupancic has signed with audio post house Formosa Group. Earlier this year, Formosa Group launched a new business model where mixers join the company exclusively, but are encouraged to work at any facility that helps fulfill the requirements of the client.
Zupancic follows Ron Bartlett and Doug Hemphill as the latest re-recording mixer to join the Formosa ranks under this model.
“Our overall goal with Formosa mixers is to offer clients the best talent available while providing them with the flexibility to work at studios and facilities that best serve the project,” said Robert Rosenthal, CEO of Formosa Group. “Dean is a consummate professional whose experience, audio artistry and industry standing parallel our desired offering.”
Zupancic received an Oscar nomination for his work on The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, Witch and Wardrobe and a BAFTA nomination for his work on Pulp Fiction. With over 100 film credits, some of his other films include Pocahontas, Lilo & Stitch, Mr. Holland’s Opus, The Princess Diaries, When a Man Loves a Woman, Mulan and The Smurfs. Recent releases featuring Zupancic’s mixing work include The Finest Hours for Disney and Point Break for Warner Bros. His current project is New Line’s Zach Braff-directed Going in Style, a remake of the 1979 comedy.
“Formosa Group genuinely cares about the creative process and I’m thrilled that they’ve accepted me into their artist collective,” said Zupancic. “I’ve had the opportunity over the past few years to work with some of the Formosa team and experience firsthand the focus they place on creativity.”
Zupancic began his career working on film documentaries in Denver. His fascination with film and sound led him to Los Angeles, resulting in a 30-plus year career in sound, mixing a variety of films ranging from comedy and drama to animation and action. Prior to joining Formosa Group, he spent seven years at Glen Glenn Sound, 21 years at the Walt Disney Studios, two years at Warner Bros. and four years as an independent.
